Anyone who wants to study in Germany before coming to the country, must have a sufficient education of the German language. In many countries German courses for those who want to get education in Germany are offered by the Goethe Institutes.
German courses in Germany
In Germany, the best way to learn German can be in the Schools of Foreign Languages. International summer schools at universities are also popular here.
FreeFree German language courses are offered by “Deutsche Welle” on its website on the Internet. The initial course “Deutsch – warum nicht?” Has been translated into more than 20 languages.
Requirements for knowledge of the German language
In order to be educated in Germany, foreign applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the German language and submit the relevant official documents certifying it.
The right of access to higher education in Germany gives a foreign applicant and the test “Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache” or “TestDaF”, which can be passed before coming to Germany at home.
“Certificate of passing the German language exam for a foreign applicant to study in a German university” (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang ausländischer Studienbewerber) or reduced by DSH. You can pass this exam directly at the university.
Those who have received a matriculation certificate (eligibility for admission to a university) in a German school, or plan to study in Germany for only one semester, are exempt from providing any evidence of their knowledge of the German language.
In addition to the above-mentioned DSH exam, there is the so-called “Test as German as a foreign language” (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache), abbreviated to TestDaF. This exam can be taken at home, but only in special centers that have a license.
TestDaF test certificate is equivalent to the DSH exam reference. International departments of universities, as well as chairs for people with higher education, do not require the provision of certificates of knowledge of the German language.
